Independent Novel Study
For this assignment, you are required to select a novel appropriate for your reading level and preferably written by a First Nations author. Read the first chapter to make sure it appeals to you before you commit. Once you have selected your novel, you may not change books. You must also inform Ms. Miller of the title. Bring your novel to class every day and make sure you have plenty of sticky notes, as you are expected to annotate as you read. You are also expected to read your novel at home – this is your homework for the next three weeks!
Overview
There are four sections to this novel study, each with its own outline and rubric. The first three sections include: Figurative Language, Literary Analysis and a Reader Reflection.
These sections need to be presented in a cohesive manner. Your choices include:

Create a website (with subpages for each section)

Create a slideshow (Slides, PowerPoint, Prezi or Sway)

Create a ‘One-Pager’ booklet / poster

Record a podcast

Create a video (i.e.: Powtoon)

The final section of the novel study is a Book Talk. You will present your book talk to a small group of classmates and they will evaluate your presentation.
